The originalParanormal Activitywas released in 2007 and made waves for being filmed in just one week and grossing over $193 million on just a $15,000 budget. The series, which drew comparisons toThe Blair Witch Project, first followed a middle-class couple (Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat) who are haunted by a supernatural demon in their new suburban home. Featherston and Sloat set up a camera in their bedroom to document the paranormal activity that occurred while they were sleeping.
Following the success of the first four films, two spinoff series were made (Paranormal Activity: The Marked OnesandParanormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension).Unlike the prior sequels, the spinoffdidn’t explore the Featherston family’s haunted history. Through six films, the franchise grossed over$890.3 million worldwide.
As of now, not much is known aboutParanormal Activity 7, as information about the plot and characters have yet to be released. Per THR, the upcoming sequel will continue to use the found footage device and is being described as an “unexpected retooling” of the franchise.
