Eight even Earthlings are to be invited aboard the first commercial flight to the moon in 2023 , courtesy of Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa . Those choose will travel aboard SpaceX’sStarshiprocket , becoming thefirst humankind to visit the moonsince the Apollo 17 astronaut in 1972 .
Maezawa – a fashion entrepreneur and artistry collector – was name as the first person to buy a ticket for the missionary post back in 2018 . He has since snap up all the useable seats and now seeks to fill them with worthy candidate from around the world .
“ I have bought all the seats , so it will be a private drive , ” he explain in a television about the voyage . DubbeddearMoon , the mission will see a total of 10 to 12 people go further than any human in history , by looping around the moon and trance a rare glimpse of its sorry side .
In 2019 , Maezawa announced that he wanted to take eight artists along on the trip , but say that the programme has now evolved as the term “ artist ” is too ambiguous . “ I set about to think that maybe every undivided person who is doing something originative could be called an artist , ” he say .
He has therefore expanded the project to allow anyone to employ , as long as they fulfill two cardinal criteria .
