Castle Rock ’s time of year finis is next workweek . But if you think you had an idea of where the Stephen King - inspired secret series was steer , this week ’s instalment , “ Henry Deaver , ” will make you rethink everything . Or , it ’ll confirm all the sneaking suspicion you ’ve had all along . Or maybe … both .
The first real glance into Castle Rock ’s “ closed book box ” ( this is a J.J. Abrams product , after all ) come in sequence six , “ Filter . ” Already having a very uncanny clip on his extended visit to his troubled hometown , Henry Deaver ( André Holland)encountered a duad of strange men in the woodswho revealed his later Church Father ’s theory about the “ schisma . ” That whole “ voice of God ” affair is , in fact , the phone of “ other heres , other now ” knocking together across realities—“All possible pasts , all possible present tense . Schisma is the strait of the universe judge to harmonize them . ”
Now , quite apparently , this phenomenon was going to have some aim on the strange case of the Kid ( Bill Skarsgård)—hidden late within Shawshank prison for decades for reasons that are finally ( albeit not fully ) explain in “ Henry Deaver . ” But first , the instalment drop us straight into one of those other “ possible presents , ” and we assemble another reading of Henry Deaver … and he looks just like the Kid .
This Henry is the biologic son of Ruth and Matthew Deaver . ( As you ’ll recall , the version of Henry played by Holland revealed that the Deaversadopted him after losing a Logos in childbirth . ) Skarsgård ’s Henry is a successful , happily wed , Boston - dwelling scientist work on the bring down boundary of Alzheimer ’s research , a subject he became interested in after his mother began showing signs of the disease . ( In this reality , Ruth still has the same unwellness — but she did leave Matthew all those years ago , and now lives in sunny Florida with her reliable love , an alive - and - well Alan Pangborn . )

The police are come up , and one of the pig is Dennis Zalewski ( Noel Fisher ) , the would - be whistle blower who died several episode ago in the prime reality after suddenly click and film several of his fellow prison guards . Skarsgård ’s Henry tells Zalewski that his daddy was fix on hearing the voice of God , and that he used to force his son to accompany him on late - night treks through the woods to try on and see it . “ It was then I realized what I ’d done . I ’d wished , not beg , wished , hope for this . Just this . And here it was , like I ’d recorded it off the damned telecasting . Well , we hump just who that is , do n’t we ? Who gives you what you wish when you need it most , with just a train or three attach ? I ’d been bought , and bought cheap . This was no son of mine . ”
Skarsgård ’s Henry shares all he ’s discovered with Molly , his older puerility buddy , and there ’s more . The young adaptation of Holland ’s Henry has been in Matthew Deaver ’s basement for old age , and he has n’t age — just like the Kid in Shawshank . That sure sounds a lot like what Warden Lacy — who also institutionalize suicide after years of find out over the Kid in his own coop — distinguish Alan Pangborn . The whole time of year of Castle Rock has been building up to “ Henry Deaver , ” a bold and unsettling instalment that remind us never to confide what we intend we ’re discover in this town .

Henry ’s tar about his Alzheimer ’s invention is very thematically on the nose , something Castle Rock is so very doting of doing : “ Continuity . It ’s hard work . We do n’t notice we ’re doing it , but we are placing event in sequence so that our spirit make sense . When persistence is disrupt , everything starts to slide , ” leading up to “ at last , confusion with time and infinite . ” Yep .
In the secondary reality , Matthew Deaver lived long enough to work up his own soundproof listening chamber ; we get a coup d’oeil of it just beyond the backyard . marvel if he had any followers in this timeline who chose to deafen themselves to melodic line into “ the schisma ” more clearly ?
We still do n’t know who or what have Matthew ’s devastating accident when Holland ’s Henry drop away through the attribute . Could Matthew ’s sick - bed accusation of “ Henry did it ” in reality have mean “ Henry traveled into another proportion , ” rather than what Alan Pangborn assumed ?
Matthew Deaver and Warden Lacy ’s relationship is still a little unclear to me . The “ keep the Devil in a cage ” plan came to the secondary - timeline Deaver when he decide that the “ raw ” Henry had been sent to him by something sinister , not by God . So , how and why did prime - timeline Lacy adjudicate to do the same to the Kid ( especially since the Kid appeared after Deaver died in that timeline ) ? Why did Lacy paint portraits of Skarsgård ’s Henry over and over , and why did the former house painting feature him in the same outfit as untried Henry ’s “ missing ” bill poster ? Were the suicide planned as a way to sop up the other Henrys back to Castle Rock to try on and set up the timeline correct ?
Are there other realities besides these two , and will we see them ? Have other Castle Rock house physician also slipped between the dimensions ? To that closing , have we met any other characters who are also traveller , and just not realized it ?
So … does a person who ’s in their wrong timeline just have a electronegative force on everyone they touch and/or are able to unconsciously charm ?
Where was the Jackie Torrance character in the secondary timeline ? No room for her in a slimly brighter interlingual rendition of Castle Rock ? Maybe she ’s just not protagonist with the upstanding citizen variation of Molly ?
Is Castle Rock making me crazy , or was Henry ’s wife in the subaltern timeline impersonate by the same actress who play the cheatin ’ woman who met her gory remainder at the true crime B&B ?
Hopefully the Castle Rock finish — which zephyr next workweek — will deliver a conclusion that satisfies , even if it does n’t fill in all the blanks . I have in mind , how could it , and would we even want it to ?
