It has been hectic for American TikTok users the last few days. With the Supreme Court officially ruling that the TikTok ban is constitutional, it seems as if the platform only has a few more days to stay within American app stores. However, could Donald Trump save TikTok? The company’s CEO, Shou Zi Chew, posted a message today that is giving American users hope.

It is only days before Donald Trump takes office and the ban on TikTok in the U.S. goes into effect (let’s also not forget about the American College Football championship — go Irish).
However, Trump recently stated that he does not want to see TikTok go away. Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling that the ban is, in fact, constitutional, many are starting to believe that Trump may save the app.
Just the other day, it was released that the Biden administration was looking for ways to keep TikTok in U.S. app stores, but then was announced today that they will be leaving it up to Trump, who goes into office on Jan. 20.
The TikTok ban is set to take place on Jan. 19.
While many have been extremely worried that this ban is the real deal, the CEO of TikTok, posted a video today on the platform talking about the future of TikTok in the U.S.

Shou Zi Chew expresses hope for TikTok to stay in the states, thanking Trump for working with him
Just after today’s ruling by the Supreme Court, Shou Zi Chew posted an official statement regarding the potential ban.
“As you know, we have been fighting to protect the constitutional right to free speech for the more than 170 million Americans who use our platform every day,” said Chew in his recent TikTok video.
The CEO then expressed his gratitude to Trump for working with him to keep TikTok in the U.S.
“I want to thank President Trump for his commitment to work with us to find a solution that keeps TikTok available in the United States.”
This comes just a day after the news was released that Trump had invited Chew to his inauguration happening on Jan. 20.
“This is a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship,” said Chew. “As we’ve said, TikTok is a place where people can create communities, discover new interests, and express themselves — including over 7 million American businesses who earn a living and gain new customers using our platform.”
So, with that being said, what does this mean for TikTok? While the ban may go into effect on Sunday, Trump does have the authority to sign an executive order that would prolong the ban for another 90 days, allowing for more time for the company’s U.S. assets to be sold.
