WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS ahead for Dexter: Resurrection episode 6.

The hitDextersequel seriesDexter: Resurrectioncontinues to ignore a crucial aspect of Harrison Morgan’s upbringing in its latest episode, “Cats and Mouse.” AlthoughHarrison was on track to follow in his father’s Dark Passengerfootsteps at the start of the season, Dexter ultimately realizes that his son is much more like his mother, Rita, than him.

Despite this,Dexter tries to remain a consistent guiding force in Harrison’s adult life, knowing all the while he has the blood of hotel guest and sexual predator Ryan Foster on his hands. Dexter’s clever thinking nearly got Harrison off the hook inDexter: Resurrectionepisode 5. However, Batista continues to see through Dexter’s deception, placing Harrison back on a dark path.

Hannah McKay in Dexter

Dexter: Resurrection’s References To Hannah Completely Ignore That She Was A Serial Killer

InDexter: Resurrectionepisode 6, Dexter tells Harrison that Hannah McKay, his adoptive mother who passed away, would be proud of who he is today. While Hannah had a softer, more humanistic side like Dexter had, she was still a ruthless killer, which makes Harrison’s admiration for Hannah somewhat misguided.

We already know fromNew Bloodthat Dexter was really grateful Hannah was raising Harrison and fleeing with him to Argentina.Resurrection, however, keeps leaving out the fact that Hannah was also a serial killer and someone who would fit Dexter’s Code.

Dexter may still be seeing through rose-colored glasses when it comes to Hannah, but that doesn’t change the fact that she was a killer like him. Hannah, like Dexter, may have formed a parental bond with Harrison, but in reality,Harrison may have been ultimately better off in the hands of another guardian.

Harrison Would Have Been Better Off Being Raised By Rita’s Family Rather Than Hannah

It’s surprising that when Hannah was dying before the events ofNew Blood, she didn’t think at all to maybe see if Harrison could reconnect with Rita’s family.Astor and Cody went to live with their father, Paul’s, parents in Orlando, indicating that Harrison would have been much better off with them rather than being raised by a serial killer.

There’s also the fact that Harrison grew up bouncing between foster homes, resulting in a much more troubled childhood than needed to be. It’s totally possible that Paul’s parents may not have taken Harrison in as one of their own, given what happened to Rita while she was married to Dexter. Paul was killed in prison after Dexter framed him for drug possession, so he was never an option to raise Harrison.

Still, this should be noted inResurrectionrather than remaining a mystery of Harrison’s past. Unfortunately for Harrison, even though he may not be a killer, Dexter is so obsessed with the fact that he was “born in blood” like he was that the poor kid never really had a chance inDexter: Resurrection.
