Elon Musk’sunderground tunnel - digging enterprise , officially known asThe Boring Company , has faced examination over alleged worker safety violations in Nevada in recent years , according to a new report fromBloomberg Businessweek . And while no Boring Company worker have died in the State Department , the report highlights a number of issues roam from long hour and a deficiency of personal protective equipment to “ defective machinery ” and burn mark .
The Bloomberg report focuses heavily on a archeological site site that would see the Las Vegas Convention Center connected to the Encore and the Westgate hotels . The Boring Companyfirst unveil in 2021what it calls the “ grummet , ” which is a fancy Son for a Tesla vehicle driving in a tunnel under Las Vegas .
The report cites record book from Nevada ’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration representation , obtained by Bloomberg through a state open records request , which detail a toxic gook that prole had to navigate which was up to of burn human skin . The burns on workers “ became almost routine , ” according to Bloomberg .

It ’s not even clear that these tunnels will one day attend passengers if the mayor of Las Vegas is to be believe :
The Encore and Westgate burrow are extensions , part of a theoretical project to broaden coverage to most of the Strip and downtown Las Vegas . But advance has been slow — so slow that Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman say she doubt it ’ll ever happen . “ It ’s visionary , ” tell Goodman , who is claustrophobic and has yet to devolve on in any of the tunnels . “ I pray that it work , but I see these stumble blocks . ” Among them , she says , are issues of capacity and safety .
The Boring Company , which was recently appreciate at roughly $ 6 billion , was founded in 2016 and grew out of Musk ’s desire to modernise transportation solutions that would allow for him to cut traffic jams . The billionaire tech founder first announced his plans for the Loop transportation scheme in 2018 , including concept brio of a fomite that couldhold 16 people . But Musk ’s achievements with tunnel have been much more low than the promises of almost a decade ago . The self-reliant 16 - person vehicles that operated on futurist “ skate ” turned into even Teslas labor in tunnels at relativelyslow speeds .

The Boring Company has been good at producing hype , including a splashy press conference in Chicago in 2018 that call a tunnel from business district to O’Hare Airport that could arrive in about12 minute . But most of Musk ’s promises , include likely projects inFloridaandLos Angeles , have yet to happen . Bloomberg also note that Musk ’s 2017 tweet declare that he ’d “ just get verbal govt approval ” for the Boring Company to “ build an secret NY - Phil - Balt - DC Hyperloop ” was n’t true . It ’s still not clean-cut what the billionaire meant by that .
The Boring Company did n’t immediately respond to question netmail Monday afternoon but the Bloomberg report includes a note from the state criminal record where company attorney accept number with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Citation , save , “ Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fail to establish that the aver violations occurred . ”
