Two thing , guys : 1 ) This was an peculiarly cruel , infuriating episode of The Walking Dead , so view this your extra - special spoiler warning ( although if you have n’t been spoiled already , you shortly will be ) ; and 2 ) , I ’m set about to think Rick ’s plan to crowd the zombies out of Undead Gorge was n’t a very good plan at all .
To be average , Rick had meant to do a dry - run of the Great Zombie Fun Run first , when a opportunity truck toppling allowed the snake god detached , forcing Rick to make the call to act out the unversed plan then and there . From a in cold blood rational point of view , it make sense — the zombi would head right for Alexandria , there would be way too many of them , and the townspeople would be well over . It ’s passably simple math .
But by squeeze the drive too betimes , it put everyone necessitate in Rick ’s plan at risk , although manifestly it put the less experient Alexandrians in more danger than the badasses of Rick ’s group . And when the horn at Alexandria start blaring and the zombie part up and the humans split up , matter got exponentially more dangerous for each group … but in the main the Alexandrians .

Rick literally announces he jazz this fact , and he ’s whole nerveless with it at the episode ’s beginning ; he pulls Michonne and Glenn aside , and flatly tell them , “ attempt to get the others back home , but not all of them [ meaning the Alexandrians ] are gon na make it . ” Michonne and Glenn — who are not dumb , and know how the zombie spirit apocalypse whole kit — are still kind of horror-stricken to find out Rick say it out loudly .
But to be fair , Rick is correct . In fact he ’s right as Hades , because it appear that only two of the Alexandrians survive to make it home , and I think one of those guy cable might have been bitten . fundamentally , it ’s just Heath , the only new guy whose name we ’ve con since the season commence .
In fact , it ’s almost comical how bad these guys are at the zombi apocalypse , because they ’re getting pounced on by unseen zombies left and good , twisting their ankles , failing to get over fence in meter . It was almost standard zombi fare 101 , complete with a note one poor bastard write to his wife in case he did n’t make it , getting trampled in the mud by a automaton who was eat the beau , because he did n’t make it .

Glenn and Michonne do their proficient to strain and carry through them all , even when the wounded Alexandrians start telling the others to go on without them . Rick , of course , would have leave them all behind long ago , but Michonne and Glenn , who know the increased risk , are dictated to hear and preserve everyone . When a huge chunk of the ruck enter the Ithiel Town , effectively cut off their leak , Glenn volunteer to set a fire at a nearby feed storage in hopes of distracting the living dead . Michonne thinks it ’s too dangerous ; Glenn assures her he ’ll be fine . Nicholas , still examine to redeem himself after his near - execution of Glenn last time of year , knows where the provender shop is , and goes with him .
And thus we add up to the newspaper headline of this clause , because this work out at well as anything involving Nicholas has , because Glenn is dead . *
It ’s heartbreaking , because Glenn was the heart of the group more than anybody ; he had find love with Maggie and may have fathered a nipper ( although impregnating someone in the Revelation is almost always a certain mark you ’re gon na die ) . It ’s infuriating because Glenn ’s decease was so meaningless ; the provender entrepot was already sunburn , the sweaty Nicholas tried to figure out another building to burn but got them trapped by zombie instead ; as they stood on a trash bin , fence in by a ocean of the undead , Nicholas spud himself in the point ( after telling Glenn “ give thanks you , ” presumably for not killing him last season ) , died , and as he fell work Glenn down into the pullulate mess of the flesh - hungry zombies too .

It was n’t heroic , it was n’t necessary , and it was extra - infuriating that Nicholas , after several genuine endeavour on Glenn ’s life story , got Glenn belt down inadvertently while committing self-annihilation . Glenn ’s death was unintelligent … but I get it . I mean , it ’s effectively like Robb Stark of Game of Thrones randomly getting thrown from his horse while devolve on down the street and suffering a concussion and dying in his eternal rest , but if Glenn had died , say , singlehandedly stopping a zombie horde from attack Alexandria , or shutting down a nuclear bomb , his dead would have been distinguished , heroic , and hearty ; by making his demise so useless , we feel his loss more powerfully .
The fact that he died as a unmediated result of his mercy , his unwillingness to kill Nicholas after he render to kill Glen double makes it all the more horrible , and heartrending , and excited . Because that ’s kind of the real tragedy — you know , besides Glenn being digested in a few happy zombies ’ tummies right on now . This , more than anything else in recent seasons , has prove Rick ’s barbarous attitude correct .
You ca n’t give people 2d hazard . You ca n’t leave enemy behind you . Mercy can get you bolt down . You ca n’t protect the infirm . It ’s all stuff Rick has been read , living , knowing ever since he pull up stakes the prison house . So when Rick bring back to the Winnebago and drive it to where he ’s hope the others will be coming out of the Mrs. Henry Wood , when he hears gunshots coming from Alexandria , he has no compunction about telling the others they have to stay on their business . “ We have to go for they can take care of it themselves , ” he sound out pragmatically . If they are n’t strong enough , they ’ll die . But as he said in the premiere , some mass were n’t meant to live in this earth .

And then suddenly , a couple of Wolves burst into the Winnebago , include the one who had steal the gun . Rick , being a terrifying badass , kills them both , as well as using an assault rifle to shoot another messiness of Wolves outside through the Winnebago walls . But when Rick does his normal search for weapon — you’re able to never have too many weapons — he witness something unknown if one of the woman chaser ’ pockets .
A jolt of baby food .
There ’s only one place nearby Rick knows that has baby nutrient , and that ’s his house in Alexandria . Where he ’s hear gunfire . And ignored it .

I feel like Rick has suddenly discover the defect in his “ allow the decrepit fend for themselves ” policy . Yes , it ’s kind of a reach that Rick would n’t straight off vex about his kids when he first take heed the gunshot coming from Alexandria , but Rick ’s been turning into an asshole for quite some meter , completely positive of his infallibility , and that has extend a great deal to all members of his original group . The Alexandrians are just zombi spirit fodder in comparison . I think it ’s within the land of believability that Rick would assume that Carol and Carl and the others would protect Judith , no matter how many Alexandrians might die in the process .
But that belief completely falls apart when he go out the sister food , because he knows this killer has not just been in Alexandria , but perhaps been in his mansion . Somehow , neither his hoi polloi nor the town ’s inhabitants were capable to stop this fiend , and Rick has no idea how much damage this guy did , or who he may have down . All he hump is that when he try the gas shots , when he knew for a fact the Ithiel Town was in trouble , he lead the Alexandrians to stand for themselves . And now he may have paid a very dear toll for that want of empathy .
And yet Rick ’s realization that having basic compassion for others can actually supply a benefit comes in an episode where Glenn ’s compassionateness gets him killed . This is what keeps me watching The Walking Dead ; whether intentional or not , I see The Walking Dead as an immensely moral show that demo us how morals can be an unbelievable liability .

If Glenn had toss off Nicholas either of the two times he attempt to belt down him , Glenn might be alive now . Whenever Rick has tried to do the moral affair , it has inevitably come back to bite him in the ass , hard . But when he turn off his mercy — lure the Termites into the Christian church to butcher them , murdering Pete in cold blood , even just telling Michonne and Glenn that not all the Alexandrians are pop off make it back to town — citizenry have been horrified .
But the reason we mourn Glenn today is because he was so compassionate . We deal about him because he let Nicholas live , because he sacrifice himself in an endeavor to help oneself the others get home . Michonne tries desperately to save everyone , although she fail . Even Daryl veers wildly off Rick ’s dumb Zombie Drive plan , all because he ’s worried about others . These hoi polloi wish . Yes , sometimes handle gets you kill .
But I think when Nox amount , I think Michonne , Daryl , and the few surviving Alexandrians will kip better at night because they tried to do the right thing — or at least they ’ll sleep better than Rick will , eff that he fairly much pay back Glenn killed ( and god knows how many others ) and abandon his baby for a plan that did n’t even shape right .

On the other hired hand , Glenn will never heat up at all . But if Glenn ’s death helps Rick retrieve some of his lost humanity , then I do n’t cerebrate he will have died totally in vain .
- But Is Glenn Really deadened ?
Obviously I have written this review as if he is . This is because I think it would be unbelievably shitty for the show to troll us in this fashion , although when I watched the tantrum I did note that Nicholas ’ eubstance seemed to return on top of Glenn , meaning it was possible that the zombies were eat on the body on top of him and not Glenn himself . In fact , because I did n’t really need Glenn to be stagnant , I reminded myself that if you cover yourself in gore the zombies down’t notice you , so technically Glenn could have gotten coated in Nicholas juice , and , if he stay on subdued and have very lucky , the zombies could have left after they finish eat Nick .

Then last night , showrunner Scott Gimple released this statement on Glenn ’s death after the sequence ’s closing :
“ In some room we will see Glenn — some adaptation of Glenn or parts of Glenn — again . Either in flashback or the current story to help complete the story . ”
Also , Glenn was n’t on The Talking Dead ’ “ In Memoriam ” segment . Also also , Steven Yuen did n’t look on TTD last Nox either , when it ’s traditional for at rest characters to appear on the episodes like a shot following their TWD deaths .

So is Glenn dead ? I still got ta imagine yes , principally because I think it would be terribly , cheap and shitty for TWD to have done this as a phony - out . I ’m not saying it ’s unacceptable , but I ’ll be way more infuriated if Glenn pour down back up and is fine , than by his death .
I ’m guessing Glenn will arrive back as a zombie , possibly to give Maggie one horrific leave-taking scene and/or to ensure Herschel ’s watch ends up in someone ’s custody ( which is why the show took a moment last night to prompt us that the scout existed ) . I assume once someone puts Zombie - Glenn out of his undead misery Yuen will make the customary TTD rounds . A flashback would also be satisfactory , but if I had to guess between the two scenarios I ’d put all my money on Zombie - Glenn .
Assorted Musings :

• frankly , I really do n’t love where everyone was going when they break up up . apparently Daryl and Abraham and Sasha were supposed to continue lead the herd , but I do n’t know where Daryl was trying to go when he broke off , given that he just terminate up back with the herd at the end of the sequence . Obviously Rick was heading for the Winnebago , but I do n’t sleep together why Glenn and Michonne and the others were trying to walk back while Rick was channelize to the Winnebago ; if one option was preferred , should n’t they all have gone that mode ? possibly I just was n’t pay aid .
• Rick cuts his hand during one of his fight with zombi spirit , because a zombi spirit had a knife sticking through its torso , and unintentionally snap up it . In a realistic zombi world , that blade would HAVE to be covered with zombie juices , and thus totally fateful to Rick , right ?
• Obviously Rick is going to be all right , unless The Walking Dead has something absolutely mad in intellect . But TWD is making some serious bank building , though , so I suppose Andrew Lincoln is there until he ’s bored , and he ’s getting some pretty juicy stuff to puzzle out with .

• I knew Glenn was dead the moment he terminate his walkie - talking call to Rick with “ Good hazard , dumbass . ” That ’s such a uncanny , uncharacteristic and yet utterly final thing for Glenn to say , particularly since Rick was busy fighting zombies and could n’t answer . It was obvious the show wanted that to be Glenn ’s last business line to Rick for extra emotional impact .
• I was almost hoping that after the lengthy , slow - motion scene of Glenn ’s last , fix to heartbreaking string music , it would be followed by a peppy commercial for The tattle Dead with “ Yakkety Sax ” played under Chris Hardwick , just for old prison term ’ rice beer .
• Next week , wait like we ’re getting Morgan ’s origin level . I ’m emotional , not just because Morgan receive his bo staff preparation from Donatello — seriously — but it look like he ’s being turned into a warrior - Thelonious Sphere Monk to bring peace into the zombie apocalypse . I ’ve enjoyed the way The walk Dead puddle me think about the spiritual pros and hard-nosed gyp of morality , but I also would love to have a few more fibre that were unequivocally good … or as undecomposed as the zombie apocalypse allow them to be . particularly now that Glenn is beat .

• Do n’t feel too regretful about Glenn . He die so that all three of The Walking Dead ’s four African - American characters could go . That ’s not just telling , that ’s a miracle .
