How does the Quickdraw keyword work in Hearthstone?

In Hearthstone, cards with the Quickdraw keyword receive a special bonus on the turn that they’re added to your hand. This encourages you to fling cards as soon as you draw them. Examples of cards with Quickdraw include Dehydrate and Trolley Problem.

Shaman’s Dehydrate spell has Lifesteal and deals four damage to a minion. It may cost a single mana on the turn that the card enters your hand. Meanwhile, Warlock’s Trolley Problem spell discards the spell that costs the least. It also summons two 3/3 Tram Cars with Rush. If Quickdraw is activated, then it negates the discard part.

Hearthstone’s Quickdraw mechanic explained

In an interview with esports.gg, Hearthstone game designer Leo Robles Gonzalez revealed the inspiration behind the keyword. According to him, Quickdraw is not only evocative of the Wild West theme in Showdown in the Badlands, but it also makes you feel like a cowboy.

“As far as gameplay goes, it’s a matter of finding things that are really evocative of the theme and making them feel as cool as we can within the rules of Hearthstone,” Gonzalez saidin the interview. “I think Quickdraw is a perfect example [how you] can’t have a Wild West showdown without gun-slinging action. So what does this expansion need? Card slinging!”
