In the morning of Sunday , January 14 , the Earth open up up again in the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland . A new irruption took place in the active region , and this time the lava connect with the town of Grindavík . After the irruption oflast month , defenses were construct to direct the lava flow away from the town , which was evacuated inNovember . A Modern cranny open up beyond the barrier and the lava hand the town , setting some houses ablaze .

“ The southern most part of the scissure is about 900 m [ 2,953 foot ] from the town of Grindavík . The opening is south oflavaflow deflection barriers that are being build up northerly of Grindavík . Lava is now flow towards the town , ” the Icelandic Meteorological Office said in astatementyesterday morning .

Gas flowing from the clap was blown towards the sea , which was at least a facile liner . The experts consider that themagmadike intrusion responsible for these eruptions moved underneath the town of Grindavík . It is conceive that existing fault and fractures in the town were reactivate and new faults likely forge as the invasion propagated underground .

This region has been the center of volcanic activity since 2021 after laying dormant for six millennia . With the latest one , there have been five irruption in theReykjanes Peninsula . The amount of magma in the intrusion had scientists worried that the region was just getting begin and this unexampled eruption is prove their concerns were correct .
