IEM Sydney is the first ESL tournament to be played on Counter-Strike 2
When Valve released CS2 out of the blue, tournament operators were caught unawares. Counter-Strike 2 was released on September 27 and several tournament operators have had to make changes. ESL also announced it will switch to CS2 starting with IEM Sydney 2023. Here’s all you need to know about IEM Sydney including the teams, format, prize pool, and live stream.

What is the tournament format?
There are a total of sixteen teams in the tournament. The teams form two groups of eight teams each. The teams play in a GSL-style double-elimination format in the competition. The opening matches are best-of-one series while the remaining matches are best-of-three in nature.
The top three teams from each group advance to the playoffs. The top team goes directly to the semifinals, the second best team goes to the quarterfinals as the Upper seed while the third team goes to the Quarterfinals as the lower seed.
