Two of Marvel’s most iconic rivals are set to do battle once again, in a brutal, all-out war for the very soul of New York City. And before the dust settles, both heroes may end up paying a heavy price.
Returning to theMarvel Knightslabel, Marvel has announced writer Jimmy Palmiotti will penDaredevil/Punisher: The Devil’s Trigger, a five-part comic series launching this November. With artist Tommaso Bianchi (Thunderbolts: Doomstrike), the two New York vigilantes will go head-to-head as a new crime war breaks out across the city.

DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO PULL THE TRIGGER? DAREDEVIL and THE PUNISHER – two of Marvel’s mightiest with one of the most celebrated and storied rivalries in comics find themselves at odds, not only with each other, but with New York’s criminal element once again! Writer Jimmy Palmiotti revisits the Marvel Universe, pitting Frank Castle against the Gnucci crime family for their most violent and visceral confrontation yet! As their conflict threatens to tear Hell’s Kitchen apart, it’ll fall to Daredevil to contain the chaos!
New Marvel Crime Families Pull Punisher & Daredevil Into All-Out War
With Kendrick “Kunkka” Lim’s cover art for the series making it clear thatMatt Murdock and Frank Castle’s reunionwon’t be a pleasant one, the first details confirm the series will find the titular heroes as opposites this time around. For Palmiotti, that means a chance to return to one of The Punisher’s greatest victories in a new, brutal light.
Having gained revenge for his family by wiping out the Gnucci Crime Family in his comic book past,The Devil’s Triggershows the chaotic power struggle that follows. It’s war Frank has no choice but to enter, bringing him and Daredevil face-to-face:

“Honestly, writing this series has been a blast and a true gift for me. Reconnecting with this storyline, originally sparked during the Marvel Knights era, is pure adrenaline and nostalgia for me and gives me the opportunity to dive deeper into what makes both the Punisher and Daredevil unique in the Marvel Universe. Revisiting these iconic characters and their explosive ideological clash feels like slipping back into a gritty, familiar alleyway for me. The Punisher’s wiped the Gnucci family off the map, but the vacuum doesn’t stay empty for long as Daredevil witnesses the birth of four new crime syndicates as they rise from the ashes to take over the city.”
Punisher & Daredevil Will Fight The War Between ‘Justice’ And ‘Vengeance’
It’s a welcome change to hear Palmiotti speak to the imperfect ideologies of both vigilantes in the official announcement. While theMarvel Knightsco-creator will also be providinga mature, futurePunisherserieslater this year,The Devil’s Triggerlooks to focus on the ethical rivalry between the heroes, not just the physical one:
“As Daredevil pursues the next wave of criminal empires, Frank’s determined to teach Matt Murdock that permanent justice comes at the barrel of a gun. It’s philosophy vs. firepower as Hell’s Kitchen becomes a battleground not just for turf—but for the soul of justice itself.. Stepping into Matt’s mind has been both a blast and a real gauntlet; the deeper I go, the clearer it becomes: both men are right, and both are wildly wrong. That tension? That moral knife-edge? It’s the heartbeat of this entire series.”
