DuringMortal Kombat 11’s Kommunity Reveal event, NetherRealm Studios unveiled astory trailerthat helped prepare fans for the plot of the next entry in the long-running fighting game franchise. Not only did the footage offer hints of the narrative beats to come, but also it confirmed the introduction a new character called Kronika, a magical figure who wields time-manipulating powers. Bearing this in mind, it looks as if multiple timelines could be a major part ofMK11, with NetherRealm Studios Creative Director Ed Boon seemingly having confirmed that there will be multiple endings for the game’s story mode.

This much comes from a recent interview held with Boon, with theMortal Kombat 11director apparently having stated that there will be multiple endings for the game’s story mode depending on which route the player takes in-game. Unfortunately, though, there’s no word just yet on how this feature will work, or how many outcomes players will be able to experience. Nevertheless, more on this matter will likely be revealed in due time.

Mortal Kombat 11’s supposed offering of multiple endings for its story mode wouldn’t be the first instance of NetherRealm Studios providing players with different outcomes for how a given game’s plot would end. As a matter of fact, the developer’s DC Comics-inspired fighting game from 2017,Injustice 2, featured several branching plot paths, with players ultimately being able to choose between playing as either Batman or Superman for two completely different results in how Brainiac would be defeated.

As of now, we will simply have to wait and see howMortal Kombat 11will incorporate multiple endings into its story mode, for there’s still plenty of time left to go before the fighting game launches later this year. Thankfully, though, fans will be able to get some hands-on time with the title before the final version releases, with NetherRealm Studios having confirmed that anonline betafor PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will take place in March.

Mortal Kombat 11is scheduled to release on July 20, 2025 for PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One.
