The overall state of tanks in Overwatch 2 was also discussed.

Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller has confirmed that there will be an update that increases the “tankiness” of some heroes. It will likely be centered around per hero changes. According to him, focusing on each hero as opposed to broad, systemic changes will reinforce the difference between characters and build on each hero’s fantasy.

In an official post on June 28, Keller discussed the state of tank heroes in Overwatch 2. He acknowledged the role’s struggles since the end of Season 8 and introduced the new tankiness metric for Season 9, noting a decrease in tankiness since then.

As a result, tankiness will increase in either the Overwatch 2 Mid-Season 11 patch or Overwatch 2 Season 12. Right now, we’re in Season 10.

“We’re putting together a patch that is targeted at increasing the tankiness of many of these heroes, but we’re doing it through individual changes to each of them,“Keller wrote. “Ideally these changes would build on a hero’s fantasy.”

He then provided an example of increasing Reinhardt’s shield health to achieve both of these goals. “This is a priority for our balance team, and right now we’re targeting either mid-Season 11 or Season 12.”

More details on these changes plus information on the timing will be revealed soon, he added.
