For one reason or another,Overwatch 2was not represented during the BlizzCon 2021 keynote presentation as was previously leaked. However, Blizzard has since offered a deep dive intoOverwatch 2, revealing some new details about the upcoming hero-shooter. This includes the reveal of two new maps thatOverwatchfans can look forward to onceOverwatch 2finally hits store shelves, whenever that may be.
Leakers said thatnewOverwatch 2maps would be shown at BlizzCon 2021, and they were right on the money. The first new map is based on Rome, and it features a mix of the classic architecture seen in the real city with the more futuristic designs that have been present on otherOverwatchmaps. It looks like a payload map, though that wasn’t specified.

The other new map revealed forOverwatch 2was one based onNew York City. The New York map inOverwatch 2will feature the towering skyscrapers that the city is known for, along with some smaller-scale locations. For example, players will be able to visit a pizza shop in theOverwatch 2New York map, as well as theOverwatchuniverse’s version of Grand Central Station. Players should seeOverwatchspins on other iconic New York City buildings inOverwatch 2as well.
Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whenOverwatchfans will get to try these newOverwatch 2maps. Recent reports suggest that theOverwatch 2release date isn’t until 2022 at the earliest, and so it seems fans of the hero-shooter have a long wait ahead of them. Those hoping that Blizzard may consider dropping some of these maps in the firstOverwatchgame to help tide fans over will seemingly be disappointed, as Blizzard gave no indication that these maps will be available prior to theOverwatch 2launch.
However, it should be noted that theseOverwatch 2maps won’t actually be exclusive to the sequel. On the contrary, thenewOverwatch 2mapswill also be available in the originalOverwatchgame. That’s becauseOverwatchandOverwatch 2share their PvP, and while the games may eventually fold into a singular experience, that won’t be the case when the sequel first launches, whenever that may be.
Blizzard has continued to reveal some freshOverwatch 2details since revealing these maps, showing off new looks for established heroes like McCree while also further explaining the game’sHero Missions. There’s still a lot for fans to find out aboutOverwatch 2, so hopefully Blizzard keeps the details coming in regularly while the wait for launch continues.
Overwatch 2is in development for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
