During the opening stages ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, players will be able to improve Cloud’s relationships with some of the other party members simply by talking to them and choosing the right dialog options. However, as they progress through the main story, they’ll begin to encountersituations where they need to make a choice, with their decision determining which of Cloud’s relationships will improve and which ones will get worse.

One such situation comes during Chapter 7 ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthwhen players are given the option to switch the mine cart tracks on Mt. Corel. Like many of the other choices players are asked to make during the course of a playthrough, there are no major consequences for the player’s decision regardless of which option they choose, but their relationship with certain party members will be affected one way or the other.

Should You Switch the Mine Cart Tracks on Mt. Corel?

If players opt not to switch the tracks, Barret, Yuffie, and Tifa will follow Barret’s preferred route in the upcoming mine cartmini-game. As this is a more exciting route, Cloud’s relationship with Barret will improve, but Yuffie will complain about the extra turbulence. Conversely, if players decide to change the tracks, Cloud’s relationship with Yuffie will improve and Barret will be annoyed about having been forced to take the boring route. It’s actually possible to improve Cloud’s relationship with both characters by getting a good score on the mini-game, but the character whose preferred route players choose will always see the bigger increase. As such, players should switch the tracks if they want to improve their relationship with Yuffie or leave them as they are if they’d prefer to bolster their bond with Barret.

Although the route does change a little toward the end, the mine cart mini-game is pretty much the same regardless of whether players choose to switch the tracks. However, the cutscene at the end of the mini-game is a little different depending on the player’s choice (see below).
