Destinyis now officially part of the PlayStation family
Sony Interactive Entertainment’s agreement to acquire Bungie has officially closed. With the ink dried, Bungie is now officially part of the PlayStation lineup.
Sonyconfirmed the newstoday, welcoming Bungie into the PlayStation family of studios. Bungie alsoshared the news, saying the studio is excited for the future.

The deal was announced inJanuary, near the start of the year. The$3.6 billion dealbringsDestinyinto the PlayStation lineup. However,Destinywill continue to publish on multiple platforms. SIE president Jim Ryan said at the time that the deal is part of Sony’s strategy to expand the reach of PlayStation to a wider audience.
“We understand how vital Bungie’s community is to the studio and look forward to supporting them as they remain independent and continue to grow,” Ryan toldGI Biz. “Like Bungie, our community is core to PlayStation’s DNA, and our shared passion for the gamer and building the best place to play will now evolve even further.”

Deals still in the works
While the Sony and Bungie agreement is now closed, others are still waiting for approval. Microsoft announcedits intent to purchase Activision Blizzardfor $68.7 billion in January as well. The Microsoft-ActiBlizz deal is under scrutiny fromseveralregulatorsthough.
Take-Two Interactive also announced itsplan to acquire Zynga for $12.7 billionin January, and thedeal closed in May.

Still, the acquisitions machine rolls on, as plenty more have been announced since January. Those like the purchase of Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal, and Square Enix Montreal byEmbracer Grouphave still been popping up this year. Whether we seemore from Sony or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
