Twitter saw more than 2 billion gaming tweets last year

According to a newConversation Reportfrom Twitter, their users love to talk about gaming. The social media giant says they saw a sharp increase in Tweets during the quarantine last year. Since then, the chatter has only gone up.

Additionally, Tweets about PC gaming and cloud gaming have more than doubled. Console gaming and general gaming news have also gone up since last year. This is no surprise as 2020 saw the release of the long-awaited PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Esports Tweets saw a 38% uptick in 2020. In a separateblog postfrom Twitter in January, they outlined the most tweeted about esports events of the year. League of Legends Worlds 2020, Overwatch League Grand Finals 2020 and Call of Duty League 2020 Championship all made the top five. In fact, theCall of Duty Leagueis a highly tweeted about league in general. Two of the league’s most popular stars, Clayster and Scump, were amongst the most tweeted about esports athletes in 2020.

The report also mentions that gaming Tweets from women have shot up nearly 40% alongside more Tweets from Gen Z gamers. According to Twitter’s data, gamers on the platform are very diverse and boast a ton of interests outside of gaming. Overall, Twitter’s gaming community continues to grow well into 2021.
